Review: The Environmental Management and Protection Act, 2010

The Ministry of Environment is reviewing , which protects ±¦ÍþÌåÓý’s air, land and water resources by regulating and controlling potentially harmful activities and substances. The Act enables the Government of ±¦ÍþÌåÓý’s use of results-based regulation by adopting the ±¦ÍþÌåÓý Environmental Code.

The ministry sought feedback on proposed changes to the Act. The goal is to achieve an Act that fulfils the following criteria:

  1. Enhanced enforceability by supporting compliance and enforcement activities within an effective legislative framework.
  2. Consistent with existing provincial legislation.
  3. Harmonized, where appropriate, with other provinces and federal legislation.
  4. Continues to support managing and protecting ±¦ÍþÌåÓý's air, land and water, and balances growth with sustainable development.
  5. Continues to reflect contemporary values and facilitates the results-based regulatory approach.

The window for providing feedback closed April 4, 2025. Thank you to everyone who responded. We are now compiling all feedback to be considered in the final amendments.
