Nine water infrastructure projects in ±¦ÍþÌåÓý will improve residents' quality of life and contribute to the province's long-term sustainability and growth thanks to the combined investment of more than $6.9 million from the governments of Canada and ±¦ÍþÌåÓý. Announced by Terry Duguid Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Special Advisor for Water, on behalf of Sean Fraser, Federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities along with Government Relations Minister Don McMorris, these projects will support communities, enhance their infrastructure, and ensure reliable access to safe and clean drinking water for years to come.

The Village of Zenon Park will receive funding to improve its potable water storage. This work will involve rehabilitating the village's existing water tower, replacing the de-icing circulation system and other associated works. 

Funding will also support upgrades to the Village of Paradise Hill's water treatment plant. The facility will see the installation of biological pre-treatment filters to improve treated water quality and decrease the use of chemical treatments. 

The Town of Shaunavon will upgrade two existing drinking water wells to incorporate ultraviolet (UV) light as the source of primary disinfection. 

"Investments in green infrastructure are key to building vibrant and sustainable communities," said Duguid. "The investments we are making today will improve existing water infrastructure by providing reliable services to community members. This work will ensure the longevity of the infrastructure and better safeguard the health and environment of our citizens for years to come." 

"The Government of ±¦ÍþÌåÓý is proud to invest more than $3.1 million toward these important water projects that will improve the service of these local utilities, increase water quality, and position communities for growth," McMorris said. 

By investing in infrastructure, the governments of Canada and ±¦ÍþÌåÓý are growing the economy, building resilient communities, and improving the lives of ±¦ÍþÌåÓý residents.

Quick facts:

• The Government of Canada is investing $3,813,469 in these projects, while the Government of ±¦ÍþÌåÓý is investing $3,177,575. Recipient communities are contributing $2,542,629 and are responsible for any additional costs.
• The governments of Canada and ±¦ÍþÌåÓý's funding comes from the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
• The Green Infrastructure Stream helps build greener communities by contributing to climate change preparedness, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting renewable technologies.
• Including today's announcement, 143 infrastructure projects or project bundles under the Green Infrastructure Stream have been announced in ±¦ÍþÌåÓý, with a total federal contribution of more than $337.6 million and a total provincial contribution of nearly $235.3 million. 
• Under the Investing in Canada Plan, the federal government is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada's rural and northern communities.
• Infrastructure Canada helps address complex challenges that Canadians face every day - ranging from the rapid growth of our cities, to climate change, and environmental threats to our water and land.
