On May 31, 2016, Aspen Interiors Inc. pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to eight counts under employment standards legislation.The company pleaded guilty to:
- One count under The Labour Standards Act of failing to pay overtime;
- Six counts under The ±¦ÍþÌåÓý Employment Act of failing to pay wages; and
- One count under The ±¦ÍþÌåÓý Employment Act of not honouring cheques.
As well, a combined total of 86 counts were stayed against the company’s directors. The company was fined $14,080.
The Government of ±¦ÍþÌåÓý is committed to ensuring all ±¦ÍþÌåÓý workers are treated fairly. The Employment Standards Division actively works with employers and employees to ensure fairness in the workplace.
“People work hard for their money,” Employment Standards Division Executive Director Greg Tuer said. “We are here to help when employees don’t receive the wages they’ve earned.”
