Well Reclassification and Completion Application

Apply for authorization:

  • To reclassify a well in ±¦ÍþÌåÓý when the product produced by the well or the role of the well changes.
  • To recomplete a well in ±¦ÍþÌåÓý if a new well completion is added after the initial completion.

2. Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Have an IRIS account and the appropriate permissions assigned by your IRIS Security Administrator.
  • Have ownership of the well or agreements in place to perform operations on the well.
  • Determine whether the proposed changes to the well are standalone, or part of a proposed or existing reservoir project application.
  • Complete the public notice process, where applicable, as outlined in:

3. How To Apply

There are two methods for applying for a reclassification or recompletion authorization:

  • If the reclassification or recompletion is for a standalone well that is not part of a reservoir application, complete the following steps:
    1. Ensure the eligibility criteria are met.
    2. Complete the .
    3. Compile the applicable supporting documentation in accordance with the .
    4. Log in to IRIS and complete the appropriate application process for authorization and attach the required documents as separate files.

NOTE: If an application is to both reclassify and recomplete the well, either application type can be selected to submit the application.

  • If the reclassification or recompletion is required as part of a reservoir application, complete the following steps:
    1. Ensure the eligibility criteria are met.
    2. Depending on the reservoir application type, complete the requirements set out for:
      • Waterflood
      • Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
      • Spacing Modification
      • Commingling
      • Storage Projects
    3. Complete and attach the as part of the Reservoir Application.
    4. Include all applicable supporting documentation in accordance with the .
    5. Log in to IRIS and complete the appropriate application process and attach the required documents.

NOTE: If a reservoir application is submitted, the reclassification/recompletion detail is to be attached if required (if existing wells are to be reclassed or recompleted as part of that reservoir application) and a separate reclassification/recompletion form is not required.

The applicant will be notified through IRIS whether the application for authorization is approved or denied.

5. Further Information

  • The operator must report when they physically complete the recompletion or reclassification of the well.
  • Authorizations are valid 1 year from date of issue.
  • There can only be one pending status on a well. For example, if an authorization is provided for recompletion, and that action is not taken on the well, then at a later date an application is made to reclassify the well, the reclassification authorization will replace the existing recompletion approval.
